To mark Mental Health Awareness Month, nine-time Grammy Award recipient and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Sheryl Crow has introduced her new, emotional single, “I Know.” The track, available now on May 23, 2025, through The Valory Music Co., explores the dilemma of emotional struggle and the comfort of knowing one is not alone.

A Personal Reflection

Crow wrote “I Know” amid personal adversity. In a poignant address, she explained, “In a recent moment when I was really struggling, I picked up my guitar and wrote a song. Sometimes when we’re struggling, just knowing that another soul can relate to what we’re feeling makes things a little bit better. That’s what this song is about.”

The song has soft acoustic guitar lines that support Crow’s expressive vocals. Phrases such as “Why is this so hard?… Maybe there’s a quiet place where flowers bloom and rivers flow. If there is, then we should go. I see the struggle in your face. The only thing that I can say is I know. I know. I know how it feels.” resonate with listeners, giving them a feeling of understanding and sympathy.

Aside from the music, Crow is leveraging this release to highlight mental health services. She has donated to the nonprofit organization To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA), which offers support to people struggling with depression, addiction, self-harm, and suicide. Crow also brought attention to TWLOHA’s “Disconnect to Reconnect” campaign, where people are challenged to go without social media for two weeks to concentrate on actual relationships and self-care.

Ongoing Social Commitment

“I Know” is Crow’s 2024 follow-up album to her “Evolution” release, which saw her return to studio albums after a five-year hiatus. The album, which is defined by its reflective tone, is a testament to Crow’s continued commitment to singing about personal and social problems in her music.
Since its release, “I Know” has been noted for its raw honesty and emotional complexity. Fans and critics have been moved by the song for the way it speaks to the usually unspoken battles of mental health, adding to Crow’s position as a spokesperson for emotional health.

Sheryl Crow’s “I Know” is at the same time a personal catharsis and a universal message of solidarity. Through her sharing and her involvement in mental health causes, Crow continues to employ her platform in working to create understanding and compassion.
