The Story & Message of WilderSkies

WilderSkies is a narrative that revolves around the themes of ancient man that includes the primal forces of the natural world and the origin of man’s relationship with this planet. At the heart of the story are Nokomis and Tohopka, not as one character, but as two distinct Spirits of the Earth, the central characters of the story.

The novel represents a turning point for humanity, where nature starts to lose ground. Through mythology, science, and emotionality knotted in tales, it follows humanity from a mostly harmonious mode with Earth into its presumptive exercise of control.

The Deeper Message & Legacy

Core to Machak’s work is a reflection on the proper order of mankind within nature. Counter to separation, he suggests that humans and Earth are quite intertwined with each other, literally becoming parts of one another as a matter of course.
